A short time ago, preview versions of Apple Music, Apple TV, and Apple Devices apps for Windows were discovered in the Microsoft Store, and it turns out one of those apps is hiding references to Apple’s upcoming mixed-reality headset operating system. “RealityOS” and “xrOS” have appeared in the official app for Apple Reality Pro.
Apple Reality Pro will go on sale towards the end of the year
The Apple Reality Pro mixed reality headset is rumored to be launched as part of a spring event to be held before WWDC. Apple used the names “RealityOS” and “xrOS” in the codes of its newly released Windows applications. These names, which are revealed when the codes are examined in detail, have a direct software focus. Until recently, the curious product was always said to be built on the RealityOS or simply rOS operating system.
Sources changed this later. The product will be based directly on the “xrOS” operating system (expected to be based on iOS). Of course, the name does not have a great meaning, but still, the brand name makes a sound. It is stated that the “xr” here is “extended reality”. OS, of course, is used as an abbreviation for “operating system”.
According to Gurman, Reality Pro will only go on sale towards the end of the year. In this respect, the headset will attract particular attention in 2024. It seems that Apple will open up the time between its introduction and release a bit to increase the app/game/content options. Apple will have a low refresh rate display on the outside of the mixed reality headset.
Thanks to this screen, those around will be able to see the facial expressions of the person wearing the headset. Equipped with multiple cameras for this and environmental scanning, the headset will offer a total of 8K resolution (4K per eye) on its main display from Sony. The headset will offer high performance with two different processors from the 5 nm production process. The rumored price tag for the model is around $3000.
