The high-profile launch of the Realme GT 6 in Europe has been preceded by a major setback. The company’s official account in Spain announced on Twitter that the entire first shipment of Realme GT 6 was stolen on its way to Spain. Despite all efforts to recover the devices, it remains unclear where the shipment went missing. This has delayed in-store experiences at the device’s launch in Spain.
The entire first batch shipment of Realme GT 6 ahead of its European launch was stolen en route to Spain
Realme Spain made the following statements in its statement on the subject: “Dear Realme family,
For reasons beyond our control, our Realme GT 6 phones were stolen on our way to Spain. Despite our best efforts, we were unable to recover the devices, so we will not be able to guarantee the in-store experience we wanted during the launch week. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
The launch date is still set for June 20, but due to a lack of devices in the region, Realme has been forced to delay or cancel planned in-store experiences.
The Realme GT 6 offers a solid list of specs, including a 120Hz display capable of 6,000 nits of brightness, a 5,500mAh battery, 120W wired charging, Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 SoC, 8/12GB RAM and 128/256/512GB internal storage. So it’s understandable that someone would be interested in the Realme GT 6.
Realme has shipped more than 200 million smartphones in just five years, making it the fifth fastest brand to reach this milestone. The interest in the Realme GT 6 is clear, but the details of the stolen shipment are still unclear. According to reports from Spain, the theft took place on May 29th and the truck driver was robbed at gunpoint, with all contents emptied.
Normally one or two devices might be stolen, but it’s not often that an entire launch shipment goes missing in an instant. Spanish news reports indicate that this incident could also affect the Portuguese launch of the Realme GT 6, scheduled for the same day.
Realme’s unfortunate incident shows that the company needs to pay more attention to shipment security and logistics in the future. The company will need to increase its security measures and choose its logistics partners more carefully to prevent such incidents from happening again.
