Rockstar Games may be preparing to announce an enhanced edition of its critically acclaimed open-world western game, Red Dead Redemption 2, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Mysterious changes to the Steam database (SteamDB) and the company’s past release schedule are reinforcing these expectations.
Red Dead Redemption 2’s SteamDB description sparks attention
The rumor was sparked by Twitter/X user BeskInfinity’s discovery of a sudden and significant change to the store description for Red Dead Redemption 2’s SteamDB entry. The old text, which previously only highlighted rewards and access to Red Dead Online, has been replaced with a more in-depth and thematic description that markets the game as a new title.
The new text focuses more on the moral struggles of the main character, Arthur Morgan, and the difficult life of the Van der Linde gang. It also adds a more comprehensive description of the online mode, Red Dead Online, detailing its activities, such as bootleg operations and legal battles. Such a drastic text overhaul has sparked speculation within the gaming community that an “Enhanced Edition” is on the way.
These rumors align with Rockstar Games’ release strategy in recent years. The company has maintained a consistent pattern of annual re-releases since 2021.
This series of releases appears to last until the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI on May 26, 2026. However, an official re-release for 2025 has not yet been announced. A recent change on the Steam page suggests that the Red Dead Redemption 2 Enhanced Edition could be this year’s anticipated major re-release.
Furthermore, Rockstar Games’ July 2025 update to the Red Dead Redemption 2 support page, specifically adding a new issue category related to online migration, which allows player stats and progress to be transferred from previous platforms to next-gen consoles, served as a significant technical clue that a cross-platform transition was underway.
Nate the Hate, a well-known gaming insider, also supported this speculation. About a month earlier, Nate the Hate confirmed rumors that Red Dead Redemption 2 would receive a current-gen upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and even claimed the game would also be coming to Nintendo Switch 2.
While there has been no official announcement, a change in the description on SteamDB, updates to the technical support page, and claims from reliable industry sources suggest that the next-gen update awaited by Red Dead Redemption 2 fans may be very close.
