Redmi’s new flagship, the K90 Pro Max, has made headlines just before its official launch in China (October 23rd), with a striking feature regarding its audio system. Redmi Product Manager Sun Cun revealed details of the phone’s unusual 2.1-speaker setup and its acoustic improvements in a recent post on his Weibo account.

According to Sun Cun, the round module located next to the Redmi K90 Pro Max’s rear camera lens isn’t just a design element; it’s an actual speaker. He explained that the addition of this rear speaker doesn’t compromise the phone’s IP68-certified water and dust resistance, emphasizing that the design has been specifically engineered to maintain this protection.
Redmi has also implemented a software solution to ensure the best sound quality. Its audio vibration dust removal feature aims to prevent blockages in the speaker vents, maintaining optimal audio performance.
According to Digital Chat Station, a reliable industry source, the Redmi K90 series will feature a 2.1-channel speaker system, a rare setup for smartphones. This system combines top, bottom, and rear speakers, promising to significantly increase depth and immersion in experiences such as:
- Playing games,
- Watching videos,
- Listening to music.
Product Manager Sun Cun also highlighted the denim version of the K90 Pro Max. This version utilizes a special technical fabric material process that successfully replicates the texture and feel of real denim. This material also provides increased resistance to dirt, abrasion, and scratches. Despite this design difference, Cun assured that the denim model’s cooling performance is exactly the same as the standard black and white versions.
