Housemarque, the studio behind Returnal, one of the most successful exclusive games for PlayStation 5, was on stage at The Game Awards 2025 with their new project. The studio released a new action-packed trailer for their highly anticipated game, Saros. However, alongside this visual feast, they also shared some disappointing news: a delay.
When will Saros be released?
According to the announcement made that night, the game’s release date has been pushed back by about a month. Originally planned for March 20th, the launch has been postponed to April 30th. The studio stated that they needed this extra time to polish the game. Reflecting Housemarque’s unique “bullet hell” style, the game features the main character, Arjun Soltari, wreaking havoc on enemies with his advanced combat suit.
In terms of gameplay mechanics, Saros feels like a spiritual continuation and evolution of Returnal. However, as Creative Director Gregory Louden stated, a much deeper narrative awaits us this time. The game will feature impressive cinematics, audio diaries, and dialogues with NPCs. This expanded storytelling is seen as a product of the opportunities the studio gained by joining Sony.
Exclusive to the PlayStation 5 ecosystem
The game will be released on April 30th exclusively for PlayStation 5 and the next-generation PlayStation 5 Pro consoles. Although there has been no official PC announcement yet, it is almost certain that the game will come to Steam and Epic Games Store in the future, as was the case with Returnal.
So, what do you think about Housemarque’s new game Saros and the decision to postpone it? Could it be as successful as Returnal? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
