Roblox is indeed looking to go beyond being just an app for children. As one of the most reminiscent applications of the metaverse concept, Roblox is truly focused on creating its own world. In this case, it’s not just about playing games in the real world. The CEO himself has stated that they are aiming to create a program where people can meet, flirt, and find their own suitors in addition to gaming.
Roblox is aiming 17 and above people
During the opening speech of the Roblox Developers Conference (RDC) 2023 last Friday, CEO David Baszucki predicted that in the next five years, ‘thousands’ of adults will meet and establish ‘real-life-like relationships’ on the platform as he closed his speech. It’s a wild idea, but the platform is now in a place where this prediction could actually come true.
Roblox has recently added experiences that can only be played by users aged 17 or older who have confirmed their age. Next year, the platform plans to release an AI-powered tool that allows you to create a more realistic version of yourself, enabling you to create an avatar with images and text prompts.
You can think of this as akin to a profile picture. The goal here is to make people look as close to reality as possible, which is undoubtedly crucial for dating. With the upcoming Roblox Connect video chat feature, which will be released soon, people who connect can switch to video calls for more in-depth conversations.
The CEO also made predictions about the future, envisioning scenarios like employees conducting meetings on the platform, real physical product sales within the app, real-time concerts within the app, and even Roblox being included in school curriculums. David Baszucki believes that at least 70% of these predictions will come to fruition.
Baszucki also reviewed the company’s five-year predictions from 2018. The company successfully achieved goals such as having 1 million players concurrently in a game, developers earning over $50 million annually, and the growth of 100-person companies on the platform. Among the unsuccessful predictions were an appearance by a U.S. president discussing their avatar in front of cameras and Tesla using Roblox developers for promotional purposes.
