GTA 6 receives new motion system patent for realistic animations

A patent uncovered by a former Rockstar developer suggests that the studio is looking for a different experience in new games like Grand Theft Auto 6. It is working on a new technology to make the behavior of NPCs (non-player characters) extremely realistic.

The patent, titled “System and Method for Virtual Character Movement”, reveals changes in animations depending on the weather, the character’s physical condition or injuries. Stating that a character will consist of blocks, the technology eliminates the need for custom animation for each scenario.

Players who have studied the patent believe that this kind of animation system will make NPCs much more responsive. Characters could mimic human movements depending on factors such as fatigue or irritation.

While this technology isn’t directly targeted at a game, it could have big implications for open-world titles like GTA 6. It could also allow Rockstar to create side characters with much more dynamic behavior than in previous games.

According to various reliable sources, GTA 6 is expected to be unveiled this year and released in 2025. Of course, it is important to remember that this is not official information and that it emerged in the light of leaks.
