Royal Caribbean will use the SpaceX Starlink on cruise ships

Royal Caribbean, the cruise company which is also the owner of Celebrity Cruises and Silversea Cruises, has announced that it will use Starlink internet service on its fleet of ships. Thanks to SpaceX’s Starlink satellites, passengers on Royal Caribbean cruise ships will be able to use the internet soon. Here are the details about Starlink on Royal Caribbean.

The company wants a faster and more reliable internet experience for its passengers. Also, the satellite internet will make its work easier thanks to the satellites on ships. Indeed, Royal Caribbean tested the Starlink internet service on one of its ships over the summer, and now the company announced it will launch officially on September 5th. Firstly, the ship called Celebrity Beyond will get satellite internet.

The cruise operator company will be the first in the industry to partner with SpaceX for a improved internet with high-speed, and low-latency broadband service. The brand says it will start launching the satellite internet service now and aim to complete the process until the end of March next year.

Jason Liberty, president and chief executive officer of the Royal Caribbean Group, said,” Our purpose as a company is to deliver the best vacation experiences to our guests responsibly, and this new offering, which is the biggest public deployment of Starlink’s high-speed internet in the travel industry so far, demonstrates our commitment to that purpose. The service will improve and enable more high-bandwidth activities like video streaming as well as activities like video calls.”

While the cruise ship company doesn’t announce anything about the technical details. For example, how many Starlink satellites its ships would use, or how much bandwidth the service would split between the passengers. However, the Royal Caribbean says the passengers will be able to use streaming services and make video calls without a problem.
