Disney, which has recently been on the agenda with its Disney+ platform, reportedly wants to enter the gaming world. It was revealed that the company, which has been interested in EA Games for a while, has accelerated its work. It is even said that the Disney CEO was pressured on this issue.
Disney CEO allegedly took action to buy EA Games
Disney CEO Bob Iger is considering acquiring a major game publisher such as Electronic Arts (EA), according to a recent report by Bloomberg. Iger’s aides want Disney to have rights to game licenses through the acquisition of a major company.
Recently, there have been many allegations between EA and Disney. However, there have been no official statements from either company. Iger is not currently in favor of this acquisition, so Disney is not expected to enter the gaming business in the near future.
Under Iger’s leadership, Disney has made significant acquisitions, including Pixar, Lucasfilm and Marvel. EA manages the licensing rights to three games with Marvel. Among these, two games based on Iron Man and Black Panther stand out.
On the other hand, EA and Disney have worked together on many Star Wars games before. However, the cancellation of some Star Wars games in development and the investigation into in-game elements in Battlefront 2 brought controversy.
Since last year, EA is rumored to be in talks with various companies such as Amazon, Apple and NBCUniversal. It is stated that some companies are pursuing merger opportunities with EA. However, no announcement has been made so far.
