Germany found a solution to the patent war with a sales ban. The ongoing patent dispute between Chinese phone manufacturer Lenovo and Germany has cost the Chinese company dearly. Germany imposed a sales ban on mobile devices from Lenovo and its sub-brand Motorola.

Lenovo and Motorola have been in trouble with the US-based technology company InterDigital for a while. Companies that had disagreements regarding the license terms of the WWAN technology used in Lenovo and Motorola models took the issue to court.
The patent for InterDigital’s WWAN module, which manufacturers must license, has caused a dispute between the companies. Stating that Lenovo did not comply with the relevant licensing conditions, InterDigital took the issue to the Munich Regional Court a while ago. The decision that emerged today was against Lenovo.
The court, which decided to stop the sale of Lenovo and Motorola’s mobile devices in Germany, banned the sale of all devices that use technologies such as GSM, UMTS, LTE and 5G that connect to the mobile network, including Motorola’s new Edge 50 series.
The court, which implemented this ban in return for the plaintiff’s deposit of 4 million euros, InterDigital, allowed Lenovo and Motorola to continue sales in Germany until their stocks run out. However, in the future, no model of the Chinese company with the specified features will be sold.
Stating that they will attempt to object on the issue, Lenovo stated that InterDigital demanded too much money for the relevant licensing process. Let’s see what decision Lenovo will face, stating that it will take this situation to court.
