Samsung is already working on the third-gen Google Tensor

Ana sayfa / Smartphones

Samsung and Google are working together on the development of third-gen Tensor chips. Google is expected to use the upcoming chip in its Pixel 8 and the Pixel Tablet devices that could launch in 2023. However, it is not clear whether the tablet will use the third-gen chip or not. For now, the company will launch the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro with the second-generation Tensor chip. The devices will launch in October according to the rumors. Let’s check the details about third-gen Google Tensor chip.

Samsung is testing the third-gen Google Tensor chip

Google used the first generation Tensor chipset in the three Pixel 6 models: the Pixel 6, Pixel 6 Pro, and the mid-range Pixel 6a. The second-generation Tensor will power the Pixel 7 and the Pixel 7 Pro according to the claims. Additionally, the rumors say the devices will launch in October. And, the tech giant will use the third-gen Google Tensor chipset in Pixel 8, and maybe in Pixel Tablet.

Samsung is developing and testing the third-generation Tensor according to the claims. The upcoming chip will have the codename of “Ripcurrent” and is model number S5P9865. The second-gen chip had the “Cloudripper” codename and S5P9855 model number while the first-gen has the S5P9845 model number.

Google is trying to use its own chipsets to have more capability on its Pixel devices and to be competitive in the market. However, its previous Tensor chipsets were more likely Exynos because they were developed by Samsung. The second-gen Tensor could be still lagged behind Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset, but Google could catch Qualcomm with the third-gen Tensor.

Google doesn’t announce its Tensor plans for long-term production. It is expected that Google will have a bigger part in the design and manufacturing of the component. Additionally, it could have a big part of the chipset market with its upcoming Tensor chipsets.
