Google and Samsung have joined forces to reshape the world of extended reality (XR). At the center of this collaboration is Google’s new XR operating system, designed specifically for XR devices, and Samsung’s Galaxy XR glasses, codenamed Project Moohan.
This is what the Samsung Galaxy XR will look like
The partnership between the two companies will aim to create an integrated XR experience that combines the real and virtual worlds. Moohan says Samsung is betting on the XR’s potential in entertainment, business and health.
Galaxy XR glasses will bring together Samsung’s ecosystem, Google’s software and Qualcomm’s hardware. The new glasses, which will use the recently introduced Android XR platform, will compete directly with Apple Vision Pro.
In a statement on the subject, Samsung said that the three companies will provide a highly advanced speech interface. Users will interact with the XR environment through voice and natural language and will have a next-generation experience.
Google’s XR platform promises to change the way users navigate virtual environments. Samsung highlighted the device’s “pass-through” technology and multimodality. Accordingly, users will be able to control their physical environment with content such as Google Maps, YouTube and Gemini.
The official release date of the Galaxy XR has not yet been confirmed. However, industry rumors revealed that it could be released in the third quarter of 2025.
