Apple and Samsung are rumored to have been negotiating for foldable screen technologies for some time. Apple, which wants to use the foldable panel developed by Samsung, seems to be finally convinced. The special glass in the Galaxy Z Fold 6 could also power the iPhone Fold.

Samsung is preparing to use ultra-thin glass (UTG) in the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and launch its next generation panel. The new 50 micron thick glass solution will be about 65 percent thicker than the 30 micron glass found in the Z Flip 5. This means increased durability.

The UTG in the Galaxy Z Flip 6 seems to have caught Apple’s attention. Reports had recently indicated that Apple was in talks with Samsung for foldable OLED displays. However, the tech giant saw durability as a major concern. Samsung’s foldable display technology seems to have convinced Apple.

The 50 micron thick screen is also expected to improve the user experience. This surface will be much more resistant to scratches and folds from daily use. The fold mark along the hinge is also expected to disappear significantly.

Apple’s first foldable device remains uncertain. There are rumors that the company will introduce a foldable iPhone, iPad and even Mac. However, it has also been said that they are all in the testing phase. Analysts revealed that Apple is testing 20.3-inch and 7.9-8.3-inch displays for the Mac and foldable iPhone, respectively.
