As the competition heats up in the mobile processor arena, Samsung has introduced the Exynos 1580 chipset for mid-segment devices. Building on its predecessor Exynos 1480, this new chipset promises significant improvements in performance and efficiency.

Samsung has unveiled the new Exynos 1580 chipset that will power mid-segment smartphones. Developed as a new model of Exynos 1480, the chipset promises significant improvements in performance.

Developed with Samsung’s third-generation 4nm EUV FinFET manufacturing process, the Exynos 1580 offers better efficiency and transistor density compared to previous generations. In this context, the processor features a tri-cluster CPU design.

This design features a single high-performance Cortex-A720 core at 2.9 GHz, three additional Cortex-A720 cores at 2.6 GHz, and four Cortex-A520 cores at 1.95 GHz for efficiency. The move to ARMv9 architecture provides significantly better performance and efficiency compared to the ARMv8 design used in the Exynos 1480.

On the GPU side, Samsung said it has equipped the Exynos 1580 with a GPU based on AMD RDNA 3 architecture. With twice as much workgroup memory as the previous chip, the new GPU delivers a 37 percent increase in peak performance and a 20 percent increase in graphics power efficiency.

The larger GL2 cache size on the new GPU will also help improve graphics performance. The Exynos 1580 is expected to power Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy A56.
