One UI 5.1 battery drain issue affects multiple devices
Increased battery drain has been a common issue affecting several Samsung devices, including the Galaxy S21 and Galaxy S22 series models. The problem isn’t new; initial reports in February suggested that the affected models were experiencing issues due to the Samsung Keyboard app preinstalled on Galaxy devices. SamMobile now reports that foldable devices such as the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 3 have also been impacted. Samsung has acknowledged that the Samsung Keyboard app may be the root cause of the problem following the One UI 5.1 update.
A fix with an updated Samsung Keyboard app
In a community forum in Thailand, Samsung confirmed that the updated Samsung Keyboard app, included in the One UI 5.1 update, “has increased battery usage.” The keyboard app reportedly underwent an “additional qualifying process” related to sticker and emoji generation.
A Samsung moderator has assured users that the issue has been resolved with a new update that was released on March 2 for the Samsung Keyboard app, version 5.6.10.31. Galaxy device owners are advised to update their Samsung Keyboard app immediately if they haven’t already, as this will address the battery drain issue.
