Samsung today unveiled its first smart ring, the Galaxy Ring, at Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2024 in Barcelona. The Korean tech giant first announced its smart ring plans at the launch of the Galaxy S24 series last month. So what does Galaxy Ring promise?
What does Samsung Galaxy Ring promise?
Samsung shared new details about the Galaxy Ring’s design and health-oriented features at MWC. The ring has a design made of platinum silver, ceramic black and gold materials. It comes in 9 different options from size 5 to 13 to fit different finger sizes.
Samsung says the Galaxy Ring provides comfortable wear 24/7 and will replace smartwatches for sleep tracking. It can track basic health metrics such as heart rate, movement and respiration during sleep.
For female users, the ring also tracks menstrual and fertility cycles. All health data will be synchronized with the Samsung Health app on the smartphone. Thus, tracking can be done through the application.
Although the hardware specifications of the ring are still unclear, the Galaxy Ring is rumored to be released in late July or early August. It was claimed that Samsung will offer it together with its new foldable phones Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Z Flip 6. Pricing for the smart ring is also currently unclear.
The Galaxy Ring was developed as part of Samsung’s goal to create an integrated digital health platform. It will be interesting to see how a big player like Samsung is received in the smart ring market.
