The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip4 models will be launched on August 10 and will be available for pre-order in select markets. The technology company will allegedly make a previous step permanent and will not use the “Z” suffix on its new foldable phones.

As of August 26, the phones, which will go on sale usually, will appear with the names Galaxy Fold4 and Galaxy Flip4, without the “Z,” especially in certain European markets, according to the claim of a reliable source. Other markets are not certain, but many European markets will use these names. So what’s behind this?

Samsung had made an update on the official sites of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia in the past months. With this update, the letter “Z” on the existing foldable phones Galaxy Z Fold3 and Galaxy Z Flip3 was deleted. Behind this is Russia, which continues its occupation of Ukraine. During this occupation, those who supported Russia and saw the occupation as justified began to use the “Z” symbol.

The “Z” symbol directly became a symbol of support for Putin during the occupation. On top of that, some countries and companies have made bans specific to this symbol. When the letter Z was seen in the vehicles of Russian troops in the first moments of the occupation, it started to make a sound on social media. That’s why the company decided to shelve the letter “Z” not to appear as if it supports Russia. Samsung is also among the companies that impose sanctions on Russia for the invasion. The company’s products are not officially available in the country.
