Samsung HDR10+ Advanced Dolby Vision 2 Competitor

Ana sayfa / News

Samsung has introduced an ambitious new technology that will challenge Samsung’s dominance in the dynamic range format market: HDR10+ Advanced. This format, developed in response to Dolby Vision 2, is designed for next-generation TVs with high brightness. The company aims to offer greater control and precision in image quality with this next-generation high dynamic range (HDR) standard.

The HDR10+ Advanced format offers six key upgrades to elevate the visual experience. The most notable features include an increased brightness range and more accurate color performance. It also offers support for more regions for local tone mapping.

It also includes content-type-based image processing (HDR10+ Genre) and tone mapping options, as well as intelligent motion smoothing (HDR10+ Intelligent FRC). Finally, optimizations for cloud game streaming (HDR10+ Intelligent Gaming) are among the format’s innovations. The format targets high-end TVs reaching brightness levels of 4,000 to 5,000 nits.

Like its predecessor, HDR10+, HDR10+ Advanced stands out as a royalty-free HDR format. This provides a significant advantage over Dolby Vision 2, a proprietary format. Samsung continues this royalty-free strategy on the audio side, developing Eclipsa Audio, an open-source spatial audio format, in collaboration with Google.

Amazon Prime Video has already announced support for the HDR10+ Advanced format. This means that some content in this format is expected to be available on Prime Video starting next year.

This new HDR format is expected to launch in early 2026, likely alongside Samsung’s new TV lineup, which will be released in January 2026. However, given the slow adoption of the previous HDR10+ format by production companies and streaming services, it’s questionable how much HDR10+ Advanced can improve this situation.
