Samsung is developing new battery technologies!

Ana sayfa / News

Samsung has intensified its work on two new battery technologies to provide longer usage times for its smartphones. The company’s steps in this area are considered long-term strategies to overcome the stagnation in battery performance.

Although the processing power, display technologies and software capabilities of smartphones have improved every year, the same pace of progress has not been made in battery life. Especially in devices with thin and light designs, balancing battery capacity and device thickness has become a fundamental problem for manufacturers. At this point, Samsung has started to follow a different strategy from the paths adopted by different manufacturers.

Chinese manufacturers Oppo, Vivo, Honor and Xiaomi aim to reduce device size and increase capacity with silicon-carbon batteries. However, since silicon tends to expand during charging, it can negatively affect battery health in the long term.

Samsung, on the other hand, is cautious about this method. According to leaked information, the company has focused on solid-state and advanced lithium-ion batteries instead. Solid-state batteries offer a safer and longer-lasting structure thanks to the use of solid electrolytes instead of liquid ones.

Advanced lithium-ion systems, on the other hand, aim to push the limits of current technology, both increasing energy density and extending battery life. However, it is stated that neither technology has yet reached the commercialization stage. It is currently unclear when the products will reach the end user.

Samsung’s priority in battery development is safety. The company has been acting very cautiously in this area since the Galaxy Note 7 battery crisis in the past. New battery technologies will be subjected to long-term durability and safety tests before being released to the market.
