Samsung is increasing HDR support with One UI 8!

Ana sayfa / News

Samsung is preparing to offer HDR screenshot support to users with the Android 16-based One UI 8 update. This feature, which is currently in the beta version that is not open to everyone, allows the image to be saved in HDR format when a screenshot of HDR content is taken on phones.

Thus, a video watched with HDR on or a screenshot taken during a game is displayed in the Gallery app while preserving the HDR effect. Currently, when a screenshot is taken from HDR content on Samsung phones, the image is saved in SDR format.

Since HDR data is not preserved in this format, the resulting screenshot cannot offer as much brightness and contrast as the original content. With the new feature, screenshots will be saved in PNG format and with gain map technology.

In this way, the vivid colors and dynamic contrast values offered by HDR content will continue to remain on the screen. The feature is not yet available in the public beta version of One UI 8. It is not yet clear whether Samsung will offer this support with an update before the beta process is completed or directly with the final version.

On the other hand, Apple has offered a similar feature to iPhone users with iOS 26. Thus, HDR screenshots are saved in HEIF format. In addition, the option to take SDR screenshots is completely preserved for users who want it.
