With the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for July 9, the anticipation for Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is rapidly building. Thanks to numerous leaks, we already have a solid idea of what the new foldable will offer, but recent updates reveal a notable shift in its design philosophy.
Samsung opts for a sleek new camera design on Galaxy Z Fold 7
Samsung’s previous models like the Galaxy S25 Ultra and Z Fold 6 introduced distinctive ridged camera rings aimed at enhancing the devices’ aesthetics. However, this design received criticism—especially on the Z Fold 6—for appearing somewhat cheap and artificial.
Taking this feedback into account, trusted insider Ice Universe reports that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will abandon these textured camera rings. Instead, the device will feature a cleaner and more minimalistic camera module, offering a more refined look.
The camera setup itself is impressive, with a triple-lens system consisting of a 200 MP main sensor, a 12 MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 10 MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. Samsung has also managed to slim down the foldable, which is expected to be just 8.2 mm thick when folded, making it exceptionally thin for this category.
Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Elite chipset and run Samsung’s One UI 8, based on Android 16. The main screen will measure 8.2 inches with AMOLED technology, complemented by a 6.5-inch cover display. Interestingly, Samsung appears to be moving away from under-display cameras, instead opting for a traditional punch-hole front camera to enhance selfie quality.
At the New York Unpacked event, Samsung is also likely to reveal the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the latest Galaxy Watch 8 series. Additionally, there’s buzz that the company might drop first hints of its long-awaited tri-fold smartphone.
