Google introduced A/B (seamless) system updates for the Android operating system eight years ago. This feature, which became active on Pixel phones from the moment it was first released, was not utilized by Samsung until now. According to emerging reports, Samsung has released its first seamless system update for a Galaxy phone after eight years. Here are the details of Samsung’s seamless system update…
The Samsung Galaxy A55 becomes the first device to receive a seamless system update.
First, let’s take a look at what seamless system updates are. Seamless updates allow the device to stay in the boot partition of the device during wireless updates, allowing updates to be downloaded without interrupting the user. This means that instead of the device restarting after updates as usual, updates are downloaded and installed in the background while the device remains active. After eight years, Samsung has finally released its first seamless system update for the Galaxy A55 model.
The Samsung Galaxy A55 has become the first device to receive a seamless update from the company. Up until now, Samsung users were unable to use their phones while downloading and installing updates, and they experienced long periods of downtime during the reboot process. With this feature being released initially for the Galaxy A55, updates will now be downloaded, installed, and the reboot time will be significantly shortened, allowing users to continue using their phones uninterrupted.
In addition to being the first Samsung device to receive a seamless system update, the update released for the Galaxy A55 also includes a new security patch and marks the device’s initial software update. Although there hasn’t been any official announcement yet, it’s expected that future updates will also be applied seamlessly.
According to emerging claims, Samsung may soon begin rolling out seamless system updates to other Galaxy devices as well. As seen on the update screen, instead of a single progress bar, there are now two separate bars indicating ‘Downloading and Installing…’ and ‘Verifying’. Users who have installed the update on their Galaxy A55 devices report that the device boots up in just 90 seconds after the seamless update. It’s worth noting that during the reboot, we no longer see the update process bar that we used to.
