Samsung Stops SATA SSD Production: Prices Could Skyrocket

Ana sayfa / News

A new crisis that will directly impact hardware prices may be on the horizon in the technology world. Recent reports from the sector indicate that South Korean technology giant Samsung is on the verge of making a radical decision regarding storage solutions. Allegedly, Samsung may completely cease production of SATA SSDs, potentially leading to significant price fluctuations across the market.

According to reliable industry sources, Samsung plans to end production of SSD models using the SATA interface as part of its long-term strategy. This move is predicted to have a far greater impact than Micron’s recent discontinuation of its Crucial branded consumer RAM products. This news could be particularly upsetting for those building budget-friendly systems or looking to speed up older computers.

Although NVMe M.2 SSD drives have become the standard in terms of speed and performance, SATA SSD technology still holds a significant share of the retail market. A production halt means a reduction in supply and an inability to meet demand.

Unfortunately, this strategic decision will translate into price increases for consumers. Experts predict that Samsung’s withdrawal from the market will create upward pressure on SSD prices for up to 18 months. A similar increase to the recent 60% rise in DDR5 memory prices is likely to occur in storage units as well.

According to analysts, this price fluctuation could continue until 2027 due to supply shortages and optimization of production costs. If you are considering buying a storage unit, it seems advisable to act quickly.
