Plans for Samsung’s long-awaited devices appear to have changed. The company was expected to unveil its first tri-fold smartphone this month alongside the upcoming XR headset, but new reports suggest the foldable phone isn’t ready yet. This shifts the focus to the XR headset, leaving foldable phone fans with a bit more to wait. Here are the details.
Samsung XR headset to be unveiled in October
According to reports, Samsung is preparing to launch the Project Moohan XR headset on October 21st. This device marks Samsung’s official entry into the world of mixed reality. The device supports a wide range of Android apps, with AI-powered controls, advanced eye and hand tracking, and support for AI-powered controls.
Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 processor and featuring a high-resolution display, the Moohan is positioning itself as a strong competitor to Meta’s Quest series and Apple’s Vision Pro.
The launch of the Galaxy Tri-Fold, initially expected to be unveiled alongside the headset, has reportedly been postponed. Samsung is reportedly delaying the launch until the end of November to allow more time for final quality checks on the device and to space out its major launches.
While Samsung has established its leadership in book-style foldable phones with the Galaxy Z Fold series, a tri-fold foldable phone represents a much bigger leap forward, which brings with it additional complexities. By separating the launches, the company ensures that each product gets its own spotlight and that the Tri-Fold launch isn’t overshadowed by the excitement surrounding the XR.
This delay may test the patience of fans who have been waiting for a true tri-fold phone for years, but the project appears to be in no danger. Samsung is aiming to take a safer route, closing the year with two major releases in a row: the Moohan for mixed reality in October, followed closely by the foldable Tri-Fold.
