Samsung unveils Auto DeX, a rival to Android Auto.

Ana sayfa / News

Samsung is working on a new platform that will reshape the in-car digital experience. This feature, called Auto DeX, is being developed as an alternative to Android Auto and offers a special interface optimized for automobiles.

Initial information indicates that this software supports more than 8,500 vehicle models from over 100 brands. However, the most striking detail is that Auto DeX can work on phones even in scenarios where there is no vehicle support.

According to the shared screenshots, the Auto DeX interface has a layout similar to Android Auto or Apple CarPlay. The map app is in the center of the screen. A playlist shortcut is visible in the top right, and a music control tool is located below.

On the left is a vertical taskbar with the time, the app list, and a shortcut to the app menu. Apps visible in the interface include Bixby, the map app, the music app, and Samsung’s phone app.

A second taskbar, featuring Samsung’s classic three-button navigation bar, is prominent at the bottom. This means Auto DeX will be able to work on phone screens, rather than just car screens.

Samsung previously offered a system called “Samsung Auto” exclusively for the Chinese market. However, Auto DeX appears to be designed to go beyond this and appeal to a wider audience.

Especially after Google discontinued its Android Auto for Phone Screens experience a few years ago, the potential for Auto DeX to work directly on phones raises the possibility of being an alternative that could fill this gap.

It’s not yet clear when the new platform will be official, in which countries it will be available, or how it will integrate with third-party apps. However, Samsung is expected to unveil the One UI 8 interface update alongside its new foldable devices this week.

This update could also officially reveal Auto DeX for the first time. While the feature’s release date for end-users is still unknown, test images and technical details of the software suggest it’s in an advanced stage of development.
