Samsung updates expand beyond phones with smart appliance support

Ana sayfa / Technology

Samsung is giving more than just its phones long-term treatment. The company has confirmed that its Wi-Fi-enabled smart appliances, starting with 2024 models, will now receive seven years of updates matching the promise it made for its Galaxy phones. The rollout includes fridges, washers, air conditioners, and dryers, all running a tailored version of One UI.

Back when Samsung committed to seven years of updates for its smartphones, it turned heads. Now, that same promise extends to appliances. From 2024 onwards, any Samsung smart device with Wi-Fi baked in qualifies, though hardware limitations could still restrict future updates. That means older chips or limited memory could hold back new features on some models.

Even so, it’s a meaningful shift. Appliances aren’t throwaway gadgets, and extended support gives buyers confidence they’ll stay useful, not forgotten.

Google Messages QR Code Key Verification Now Rolling Out in Beta

Google Messages beta adds QR code key verification for secure RCS chats, replacing 80-digit codes with simple scans.

The software layer behind Samsung phones is heading to the kitchen and laundry room. One UI will bring a mobile-style interface to devices like refrigerators and washing machines, aiming for smoother control and consistent visuals.

That includes things like Samsung TV Plus, the Gallery app, Bixby voice control, and SmartThings integrations like Family Care or Pet Care. A new feature called Now Brief, expected in 2026, will surface updates like the weather, recipes, and even how long your laundry has left.

Samsung confirmed that a wide range of its smart appliances will benefit from this upgrade. Here’s what’s getting the treatment first:

Again, the catch is that these must be models released in 2024 or later. The update schedule starts rolling out next month.

Samsung’s ecosystem push is more than branding. By bringing a unified platform and longer software life to home appliances, the company is encouraging deeper buy-in. If your fridge, washer, and TV all talk to each other and keep doing so for seven years that’s a hard value proposition to ignore.

It’s about time the update conversation left the phone aisle. Samsung’s move makes long-term support a feature, not a footnote. And with One UI tying everything together, your appliances might finally feel like they’re part of the same smart home, not just gadgets sharing Wi-Fi.
