After Samsung unveiled an updated version of its first home robot, Ballie, two years ago, the company announced earlier this year that the robot would be released before the end of 2025. However, as the year drew to a close, Samsung announced the inevitable: Ballie’s launch has been officially postponed.
Release Date Officially Postponed!
Samsung earlier this year stated that it would release Ballie in the summer of 2025. When it missed this launch window, which ended after IFA 2025, a delay was anticipated. Now, Samsung’s official announcement has confirmed the postponement, but the company hasn’t offered a new alternative launch timeline.
In a statement to TechRadar, a Samsung representative said, “We continue to refine and perfect the technology to deliver a more effective customer experience.”
This statement appears to indicate that Samsung is acknowledging that Ballie isn’t yet ready for the mainstream market. It remains unclear whether the company is working on the hardware or software aspects of the robot. It was previously announced that Ballie’s AI capabilities would be powered by Google’s Gemini.
The first Ballie prototype was unveiled six years ago. Two years ago, the company unveiled an improved version with a new design and enhanced capabilities, including a camera and projector.
Samsung described Ballie’s capabilities as follows:
- Follow and Command: Follow you around the house and listen to your voice commands.
- Smart Home Control: Control smart home devices.
- Personal Assistant: Provide updates on your calendar and tasks.
- Entertainment: Play music and videos, search for information online.
- Projector: Project content onto a wall or floor.
