In recent years, Samsung has continued to make significant investments in foldable phone technology. According to the latest reports, Samsung’s newest foldable panel has received approval from the U.S. Department of Defense Test Method Standard known as MIL-STD-810. With this announcement, Samsung’s foldable panels are now more resistant to challenging conditions. Here are the details of Samsung’s foldable panel with military durability approval…
Samsung becomes the first company to receive military certification for foldable OLED panels
The 7.6-inch foldable panel, similar to the one used in the Galaxy Z Fold5, has been granted the MIL-STD-810 certification. This certification ensures that the new screen will withstand extreme temperature changes and heavy conditions, continuing to function without damage.
Additionally, according to the company’s claim, Samsung’s latest foldable panel became the first OLED panel to receive this military certification, establishing Samsung as the world’s first company to attain the MIL-STD-810 certification for foldable OLED panels.
During the testing process, the new product is subjected to rigorous conditions. After exposure to water at -10°C, it is covered with a 6mm layer of ice. If it successfully operates under these conditions for four hours, simulating even harsher environments like humid conditions, it proceeds to further testing. Subsequently, the panel is subjected to temperature variations between -32°C and +63°C, being kept at each extreme for a total of three cycles, each lasting two hours.
Furthermore, Samsung’s new panel undergoes stress tests, including being dropped from a height of 1.22 meters, simulating real-world usage scenarios akin to handling during phone calls, for a total of 26 drops. Additionally, it is expected to withstand pressures up to 10.5G in the G-test designed for pilot candidates, demonstrating its durability under extreme conditions.
Despite just receiving the certification, according to announcements made by the company, foldable devices currently do not have any durability shortcomings. Moreover, with this certification, the Z Fold and Flip series can now host new applications.
It seems Samsung will bring new features to this technology with fresh investments. What are your thoughts on Samsung’s foldable devices and panels with military certification? Don’t forget to share your thoughts in the comments.
