One standout feature of the Gen4 remains: it doesn’t require a neutral wire, making it more suitable for older homes. That said, a bypass is still recommended for lighting loads under 20W. Setup is relatively straightforward, especially for users familiar with previous Shelly products.

The Shelly Dimmer Gen4 supports a wide range of lighting types. Whether you’re using dimmable LEDs or old-school halogen bulbs, the Gen4 can handle them.

Supported lighting types include:

Users can fine-tune fade time and dimming speed through the Shelly app, creating a lighting experience tailored to their space. Voice control support is also included, letting you adjust lights hands-free through popular assistants.

Its compact size (38.5 x 43.5 x 17 mm) makes it easy to install behind most switch boxes. The Gen4 also sports a green shell, which helps distinguish it from older models. Despite the upgrades, it remains just as space-efficient.

Currently priced at €41.13 down from the regular €45.70 the Shelly Dimmer Gen4 is now on sale in various European countries. No timeline has been shared yet for a North American release.

The Dimmer Gen4 brings meaningful upgrades without overcomplicating things. With Matter support, Zigbee connectivity, and no need for a neutral wire, it’s a smart pick for anyone looking to modernize their lighting setup without tearing up walls.
