GameStop has addressed the growing complaints around Shiny Koraidon and Miraidon codes for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but fans aren’t fully satisfied.

The in-store code event kicked off at the end of September, alongside the launch of a new Pokémon TCG set. It didn’t take long for supplies to run dry, with many fans pointing to scalpers as the reason behind the sudden shortage. GameStop locations across the U.S. saw demand outpace supply almost immediately.
GameStop restocks but admits limitations
After waves of complaints, GameStop restocked the codes, though only partially. The retailer confirmed that most stores received around 50 codes total. The company acknowledged the feedback and clarified in its public statement that stores are now distributing the new batch of codes via printed receipts.

“Due to overwhelming demand, the first wave of free Shiny Koraidon and Shiny Miraidon code cards went very quickly.
We saw your feedback and worked with Pokémon to secure a second wave, now being distributed as free receipt codes in stores.
Pokémon has given us a limited number of receipt codes, approximately 50 per store. GameStop is committed to distributing every code we receive and we commit to providing more to fans if Pokémon makes additional codes available.”
Fans call for better code distribution
While GameStop’s response may help in the short term, many players are calling for a shift toward digital code distribution. That method would cut down on in-store chaos and limit code hoarding. Some regions have already used digital methods for previous giveaways and they’ve been far more efficient.
