China first implemented the iPhone ban in September. According to this decision, public institution employees in certain states were prohibited from using Apple devices. According to the latest decision, China prevents public employees across the country from using iPhones or bringing them to the office.
China now bans all government employees from using iPhones
According to Bloomberg’s new report, the decision, which was first implemented in Beijing and Tianjin, has been expanded to eight more Chinese provinces. This means employees in government agencies are banned from using the iPhone for both office and official business use.
According to China’s decision, employees must have domestically produced devices. In this context, it was implied that it would be right to turn to Huawei. The first 5G smartphones developed after US sanctions, the Mate 60 series, were recommended for use.
In September, Chinese officials rejected claims about iPhone restrictions and expressed “security concerns about Apple.” The USA, on the other hand, defended Apple, saying that this decision was an “inappropriate retaliation”.
As Chinese technology brands such as Huawei, Xiaomi, Honor and Vivo become stronger, the scope of the ban expands. Devices of these brands generally compete with the iPhone in areas such as battery capacity, charging speeds and design. It should also be noted that while Apple also sells flat-screen phones, Chinese brands offer foldable phones.
By making such decisions, China is trying to find a domestic alternative to iPhones. He also wants to reduce the government’s technology dependence on the United States and other Western countries. However, let us note that the decision only affects government employees.
