The long-running animated series The Simpsons has once again proven its reputation for predicting the future. This time, President Biden’s decision to drop out of the race and endorse Kamala Harris may have been predicted in a 2000 episode of The Simpsons.
Did The Simpsons predict Kamala Harris’ presidential candidacy?
In the Simpsons episode “Bart to the Future”, Lisa Simpson is portrayed as the first female president of the United States. In this episode, Lisa wears an outfit very similar to the purple suit and pearl necklace and earring combination worn by Kamala Harris at her inauguration in 2021. This similarity drew attention with a post on social media by Al Jean, one of the writers of the series.
Coincidence or foresight?
Al Jean stated that the resemblance was purely coincidental. However, the images shared on social media and the show’s predictions in the past resonated with viewers. It was previously claimed that The Simpsons predicted the acquisition of 20th Century Fox by Disney in the 1998 episode “When You Dish Upon a Star”. This prediction came true in 2017.
Trump and Lisa Simpson’s presidency
The episode “Bart to the Future” also predicted another major event. In the episode, President Lisa Simpson talks about the budget crunch she inherited from Donald Trump. The Simpsons thus predicted Trump’s presidency and the first female presidential candidate to follow. Time will tell how much of this prediction will come true.
