Skate 4 Early Access Brings the Franchise Back to Life After 15 Years

After a decade and a half on ice, Skate 4 Early Access has finally landed. EA’s reboot of the cult-favorite skateboarding series rolled out globally on September 16, marking the franchise’s return to the spotlight with full crossplay support and a fresh open-world concept built for online chaos.

At the core of Skate 4 Early Access is San Vansterdam, a sprawling multiplayer city that can host up to 150 players on a single server. This always-online world isn’t static. Instead, it’s built to shift over time based on both community input and ongoing updates from the dev team at Full Circle. Unlike the semi-closed playgrounds of the past, this is a live, breathing environment.

The city is split into four zones: Hedgemont, Brickswich, Gullcrest, and Market Mile. Each district brings its own terrain, from rail-heavy business blocks to crusty alley spots, giving players a reason to explore outside their comfort zone.

You’re no longer stuck skating with just your console crew. Skate 4 Early Access supports full crossplay and cross-progression across PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Whether you’re on Steam or the EA App, you’re skating the same streets as everyone else.

Full Circle also brought back the fan-favorite Flick-It controls, this time tighter and more responsive. Alongside the improved physics, players now have better off-board movement too, letting them scale rooftops or reach new lines that were off-limits in past games.

Here’s what stands out in the Early Access drop:

Skate 4 isn’t just a reboot, it’s a full reinvention. Instead of static releases, the game runs on a live service model, designed to evolve steadily over time. Frequent seasonal updates will keep the momentum going, and the first drop hits soon.

To start, Season 1 launches in October 2025, bringing Halloween-themed events and the debut of the game’s battle pass system, known as “skate.pass.” Expect limited-time challenges, themed cosmetics, and exclusive rewards tied to progression.

Then, in December, Season 2 levels things up. New features include party voice chat, co-op gameplay modes, and deeper trick mechanics—like impossibles and polished handplants. These updates aim to expand how players interact and explore lines together in San Vansterdam.

Looking further ahead, the roadmap extends into 2026, with major additions like player-built skate parks and global ranked leaderboards already in the pipeline. It’s clear Full Circle isn’t just making a comeback, they’re building a skateboarding sandbox that lives and grows alongside its community.

The Early Access phase is expected to last around six months. That gives Full Circle time to listen, tweak, and grow the game alongside its players. The board’s finally back on the pavement. Whether it sticks the landing depends on how well San Vansterdam holds up under its own ambition.
