Smartphone batteries are getting bigger in 2024! But it comes at a cost

Ana sayfa / News

When buying a new smartphone, we are all looking for longer battery life. In response to these demands, companies intend to meet battery expectations for smartphones that will be released in 2024. Many models that will be equipped with huge batteries of 6000 mAh capacity will reduce the charging trouble of users a little more. However, every good thing has a price. With these big batteries, there will be some steps back in fast charging technology.

In previous years, the charging time was reduced to a few minutes with 100W and 120W fast charging technology. However, this year, the charging power will drop to 80W and 90W levels in models such as Xiaomi 15 Pro, OnePlus 13 and vivo X200 Pro. In other words, although the battery will grow, it will be necessary to be a little more patient while charging.

So, what is causing this change? The biggest reason for this situation is that manufacturers want to balance the charging times of devices with larger and longer-lasting batteries. A larger battery means longer usage time. However, the high voltage and heat generation of fast charging can be harmful to these large batteries in the long run. Therefore, we can say that a small sacrifice in charging time is made for the sake of the battery lasting longer.

For example, the Xiaomi 15 Pro stands out with its Snapdragon 8 Gen4 processor, 2K display, and 50MP cameras, while the OnePlus 13 stands out with its 6000 mAh battery and 3X telephoto lens. Another ambitious model, the OPPO Find X8 Pro, comes with a 5700 mAh battery and a 10X telephoto lens.

As a result, manufacturers are trying to please users with larger batteries and higher performance, while taking a more modest approach to fast charging. But there is also a situation like this: Thanks to this balance, longer-lasting batteries will require less charging.
