Qualcomm has unveiled its new platform, Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset. The new chipset, which will appeal to the middle class, is specially prepared for GPU and artificial intelligence operations.
How good is Snapdragon 6 Gen 3?
Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, codenamed SM6475-AB, shares many features with Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. Both chipsets consist of 4 efficient Cortex-A55 cores and 4 high-performance Arm Cortex-A78 cores running at 2.4GHz.
The main differences of the platform, which is powered by the Adreno 710 GPU, stem from the core clock speed. In Snapdragon 7s Gen 2, the efficient cores run at 1.95 GHz, while in Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, this speed has dropped to 1.8 GHz. This was probably done to reduce power consumption and save battery power.
In terms of technical specifications, the 6 Gen 3 has similar features to the 7s Gen 2, such as LPDDR4x and UFS 3.1 storage support. The only thing missing is 144Hz refresh rate support at FHD+ resolution on the displays. Accordingly, the 6 Gen 3 supports FHD+ 120Hz refresh rate.
The 5G-supported processor includes Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E and Quick Charge 4+ features. On the camera side, we see 4K/30 fps video, 4K HDR support, 120 fps slow motion at 1080p and AI correction.
With its new platform, Qualcomm is targeting cheaper smartphones without developing a completely new chip. Of course, let’s remind you that the first model to use Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is uncertain for now.
