Qualcomm has introduced its new generation mid-range processor, Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. The chipset, developed with TSMC’s 4nm production process, offers a remarkable performance increase compared to the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 introduced last year.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 officially introduced
Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, which maintains the 1+3+4 core layout, consists of one 2.8 GHz Cortex-A720, three 2.4 GHz Cortex-A720 and four 1.84 GHz Cortex-A520 cores. This structure provides an approximately 27 percent improvement in CPU performance compared to the previous generation.
On the graphics side, the new Adreno GPU offers 30 percent higher performance compared to its predecessor. Advanced graphics experience is also made possible with OpenGL ES 3.2, Vulkan 1.3, HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG support.
The chipset has an AI engine that can run large language models on the device. It is also the first Snapdragon 7 series processor to support Stable Diffusion-based image production. Qualcomm stated that there was a 65 percent increase in AI performance compared to the previous model.
On the imaging side, up to 200 MP photo shooting is supported with a 12-bit triple ISP. Video shooting can also be recorded at 60 fps in 4K HDR resolution. In addition; AI-supported autofocus, automatic white balance, automatic exposure and hardware-based stabilization features are offered for the first time in the 7 series.
Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 provides up to 16 GB LPDDR5x RAM, UFS 3.1 storage, WQHD+ resolution and 144 Hz refresh rate screen support. On the connectivity side, it comes with a Snapdragon 5G Modem that can reach download speeds of up to 4.2 Gbps.
