Qualcomm is working on a new Snapdragon 8s Elite processor. The new chip will address the mid-range smartphone market. According to leaks, the new processor will be more powerful than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but slightly weaker than the 8 Gen 3. So when will we see models with this processor?
Snapdragon 8s Elite, mid-segment phones will be more than powerful
The Snapdragon 8s Elite will add significant improvements over the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 previously used in mid-range devices. In other words, it will beat the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in single-core performance, while the graphics processor (GPU) will meet expected levels in stress tests.
However, it’s worth noting that this chip will lack high-end features such as 8K video recording or advanced AI capabilities. Meanwhile, recent leaks have shown that some phones using the 8s Elite processor could have a battery capacity of 7,000mAh. This means significant advantages in terms of battery life.
A new Snapdragon 7 Plus chip is also planned to be introduced with this processor. The Snapdragon 7 Plus could again be a more affordable option for mid-range devices. In short, with the Snapdragon 8s Elite, Qualcomm will offer a processor that is not as expensive as flagship devices, but still offers high performance. Therefore, we will now see extremely powerful devices in mid-range devices.
We expect the first 8s Elite phones to be released in March or April 2025. Do you think this processor can close the gap with flagship devices?
