Sony is preparing to experiment with a new way of developing games. In its newly released 2024 Corporate Report, it was announced that the company will integrate artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) technologies into its game development processes in the future. But what does this mean?
Sony will use AI in game development: Faster, cheaper, more efficient
In short, games will be developed faster, costs will be reduced, and players will have brand new experiences. For example, during the development of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, speech recognition software was used to automatically match character dialog with subtitles. In other words, developers will be able to devote their time to more creative work while delegating monotonous tasks to artificial intelligence. This will shorten the game production process and significantly reduce costs.
Sony’s investments are not limited to this. The company is investing heavily in projects such as Volumetric Capture Studio. This studio captures 3D data of people and environments and integrates it into games or other projects. Thanks to these technologies, game worlds become much more realistic.
Sony also plans to integrate 3D elements used in music videos into games using the Unreal Engine with Epic Games. This will make it possible to create a visual connection between a game and a music video.
Of course, these technological innovations also raise some ethical questions. Concerns arise about how AI will affect the workforce and whether it will limit creativity. As AI takes on repetitive and time-consuming tasks, some fear that it could replace humans in the creative process. Supporters, on the contrary, argue that this technology will further enhance the creative potential of developers.
It looks like Sony will be embracing the AI revolution in full force to stay ahead of the game development curve. How do you think AI will change the world of gaming? Will these innovations make your gaming experience more enjoyable? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
