Is Sony giving up on virtual reality?

Ana sayfa / News

Sony Interactive Entertainment launched the PlayStation VR2 for PlayStation 5 last year. But the virtual reality platform has been struggling for a long time and it seems Sony is losing confidence in PSVR 2. Recent news has revealed that Sony will reduce its support for new PSVR 2 games.

Sony is cutting funding for PSVR 2 games. It is reported that only two first-party games are currently in development for this platform and there will be no more opportunities in the future. Sony has yet to comment on this news.

In March, it was reported that Sony had halted PSVR 2 production due to a large number of unsold games. While many praised the system’s features and technical performance, its high price was cited as the main reason for low sales.

Lack of games is also not a new problem for PSVR 2. Sony has only released a handful of first-party titles for the platform, and no new titles in 2024. The publisher has also closed two VR studios, Blood & Truth developer London Studio and Firewall developer First Contact Entertainment.

Sony aims to boost sales by launching a PSVR 2 PC adapter next month. This adapter could open the device to a wider market. But with Sony reportedly reducing its investment in new VR games, it’s unclear how long Sony will continue this support.

It seems that a large part of the gaming community still hasn’t gotten used to VR sets. What do you think? Please share your thoughts with us in the comments section below.
