An important technical detail for the Sony PlayStation VR2 virtual reality headset has come to the surface. The headset will include a MediaTek processor. Sony PlayStation VR2, or PSVR 2, will go on sale on February 22 with a price tag of 550 dollars, according to the official announcement made by Sony in the past weeks. As announced by MediaTek, the product will be the first VR processor developed by the company.

Sony is assertive with PSVR 2

There are no details about this processor yet, even so, this means a great success for MediaTek. Sony, which worked with AMD on the PS5 itself, has worried Qualcomm by partnering with MediaTek for the PSVR2, which has become very strong in this field. PSVR2 has been actively in mass production for some time now. The goal is to produce at least 2 million units of the headset by March 2023. Based on this number, it seems that Sony is expecting more demand than the first model with VR2. The product will be available for pre-order on November 15th.

If we talk about the features of the headset, the headset will bring a 1080P virtual screen when Cinematic Mode is turned on. On this screen, games that are not for VR can be played or you can navigate the PS interface. With 4K resolution at 2,000 x 2040 per eye, all set upon an OLED HDR panel at refresh rates of 90Hz or 120Hz, PSVR 2 is certainly looking to compete with some of the best VR headsets on the market.

New vents will stop users from overheating during use and a lens adjustment dial means everyone can experience picture-perfect VR. While many were expecting the PSVR 2 to abandon cables altogether, those who battled against the wires of the original system will be glad to know that the whole headset connects with a single tether now you just need the PS5 stock to use it.

The headset will also support live streaming. This will require the purchase of an external PS5 HD camera. People who buy this camera will be able to broadcast both themselves and the game live. This will especially please game streamers. The product will also allow you to look at the room without removing the headset. Aiming to prevent many accidents in this way, Sony will also allow people to set up a special play area here. At the edge of this area, the user will be warned visually and audibly against the risk of bumping/falling.
