Sony is finally sharing new details about the upcoming PlayStation-branded wireless headphones. In a blog post, the company revealed that the premium headphones are called Pulse Explorer. The surprising part is that these headphones are priced at $200, the same as the newly announced PlayStation Portal (portable console). So, how will Sony’s new wireless headphones be?
Sony has started the countdown for its wireless headphones
While the price tag may seem high for a pair of gaming headphones, Sony claims that their strong performance justifies the cost. The company mentions that the headphones will feature low-latency lossless audio, include two microphones, and utilize ‘AI-driven noise cancellation’ to filter out background noise.
In addition to the wireless headphones, Sony also announced the Pulse Elite over-ear headphones priced at $150. This model appears to be an advanced version of the previous PULSE 3D wireless headset. Both the Pulse Explorer and Pulse Elite will utilize Sony’s PlayStation Link technology to communicate with the PS5 and Portal when they are released.
Sony mentions that the connection is built directly into the Portal, but PS5 owners will need to purchase a separate USB dongle to connect their devices. With this USB dongle plugged in, users will be able to connect to Link-supported devices, including PS5, Portal, as well as Macs and PCs. Explorer users will also be able to simultaneously connect to Link through the dongle and other Bluetooth-enabled devices.
In a blog post, Sony used the following statement: ‘For instance, Pulse Explorer can be connected to a PS5 using PlayStation Link and simultaneously connected to a mobile phone via Bluetooth.’ This enables gamers to instantly answer a call while playing a game on the PS5 and hear the person they are talking to through the same headset. The release date for the headphones is yet to be determined.
