Android 16, developed by Google, has begun rolling out to many devices. At least the number of companies working on it is increasing. For example, Samsung is rapidly releasing updates for many of its models. However, Sony has decided to remain silent on the matter, leaving users eagerly awaiting the update. Here are the Sony Xperia devices that will receive the Android 16 update…
Silence from Sony on Android 16
Sony has not yet officially announced which devices it will bring the Android 16 update to or what the update schedule will be. While Android brands like Samsung and Xiaomi launched beta programs weeks ago, it’s noteworthy that Sony hasn’t yet taken any steps in this direction. However, this doesn’t mean the company isn’t working on the new operating system.
Since the tech giant hasn’t yet released an official update list, a list based on its current update policy has been shared. This list is quite short, indicating that only three models will be upgraded to Android 16. Here are the Sony models that will receive Android 16:
- Xperia 1 VII (Last update: Android 15)
- Xperia 1 VI (Last update: Android 15)
- Xperia 10 VI (Last update: Android 15)
The Xperia 1 VII was released in May of this year, while the other two (Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI) were released last year. When the update launches, the Xperia 1 VII is likely to be the first to receive it, with the Xperia 1 VI and Xperia 10 VI following later.
Although Sony has lost its market leadership, it continues to release premium camera-focused phones every year. While the number of new phones has decreased, software support hasn’t been negatively impacted. The company has even increased update support for models released in 2024 and newer.
