Sony has been working on the development of the PlayStation 5 Pro for some time. In this context, it wants to offer significant performance increases compared to the PS5. However, according to the latest claims, some features of the PlayStation 5 have started to be hidden. For example, the 8K logo is missing from the new PlayStation 5 box.
8K logo removed from PlayStation 5 box
Sony has quietly started to remove all references to 8K support from the PlayStation 5’s box. Previously, the console was touted to support output at 8K resolution. However, the revamped PS5 boxes only emphasize 4K and 120Hz playback.
It’s unclear how long the PS5 box has been using the new design, but it appears to have been distributed in the last few months. Boxes showing support for 8K are still available in some stocks. However, the packaging on Sony’s official PlayStation site lacks the 8K logo.
Sony’s decision to stop announcing support for 8K is unknown. Given the low market share of 8K TVs, the company may have decided that promoting the feature is not important for now. Many gamers think Sony is saving 8K capabilities for the PlayStation 5 Pro.
Of course, removing the 8K logo from the box doesn’t affect the PS5’s capabilities. The console still supports 4K 120Hz and 8K resolution. The PS5 Pro will allegedly offer a 45 percent increase in display speed compared to the regular version. Ray-tracing performance will be up to 3-4 times better.
It seems possible that 8K support will become more important with PlayStation 6. This means that Sony does not want to market 4K and 8K with the PS5 series.
