Minecraft, the legendary game of the gaming world, has broken its own record by reaching 300 million sales. Mojang Studios announced that Minecraft, which was first released in 2009, has surpassed the limits in the number of players worldwide.
Minecraft reaches 300 million players
The new announcement from Mojang represents a significant increase compared to the 238 million sales figure last reported in 2021. Minecraft’s enduring popularity and the growth of its player community over the years has enabled it to break its own record.
“As we approach its 15th anniversary, Minecraft continues to be one of the best-selling games of all time with more than 300 million units sold,” said Helen Chiang, President of Mojang Studios, in a statement. She also said that this is an achievement that would have been unimaginable 15 years ago.
In addition to the sales figure, Mojang announced that Minecraft will celebrate its 15th anniversary throughout 2024. While details are unclear for now, the company said it has “exciting plans” to honor one of the most successful franchises in gaming history.
Kayleen Walters, Head of Development at Mojang Studios, thanked the Minecraft community. “As we kick off the year with this milestone, we look forward to honoring and celebrating your contributions, stories and adventures,” she said.
Minecraft, which is available on almost every platform from mobile to console, is the best-selling game of all time. In second place is GTA 5 with 185 million sales and in third place is Tetris with 100 million sales.
