Spotify, which has often been in the spotlight due to its issues with Apple in the past, is now expressing its dissatisfaction with the company’s new compliance regulations with the European Union. Spotify CEO Daniel Elk stated that what Apple is doing is completely absurd and unacceptable, while also acknowledging the potential of the new regulations to contribute to the Spotify brand.
Spotify is not alone!
It can be said that Spotify is not the only company reacting to these new regulations. Companies like Epic Games, Mozilla, and Microsoft have also come under heavy criticism from Apple. Elk accused Apple of playing a kind of perception game and trying to circumvent European Union laws, while also stating that the high commission rates demanded from them are coercive.
Daniel Elk also criticized Apple’s communication tactics on social media, claiming that the company distorts everything and things are not as they seem. However, despite all these complaints, Elk emphasized that they will find solutions to any problems that arise and that Spotify will continue to dominate the music streaming industry.
If we look at Spotify’s recently announced subscriber count and revenue, we can say that Elk may not be entirely wrong. The app, used by millions of people every day worldwide, is also quite popular in Turkey. We will see how the new Apple regulations will truly affect the company in the future.
