Spotify introduces miniplayer feature for macOS and Windows
Spotify has announced the rollout of a new feature on both macOS and Windows platforms. The feature, called MiniPlayer, is currently enabled only for premium subscribers.
The miniplayer is designed to provide maximum control over your music and podcasts with minimal interference. For example, if you want to quickly skip a track, adjust the volume, or change the repeat mode, you won’t need the Spotify window anymore.
As seen above, you can customize the shape of the mini player to a square, rectangle, or ‘sleek bar.’ Spotify notes that the mini player provides a balanced experience for both video and music content. You can control video podcasts in picture-in-picture mode and resize the video player.
While in miniplayer mode, clicking on the artist name, song title, or album cover can open the main Spotify application. You can find the miniplayer in the bottom right corner of the Spotify desktop app, between the volume and full-screen buttons.
The mini player can be used over other applications, meaning that the new feature won’t disrupt your workflow as much as switching windows. Additionally, since it doesn’t replace the Spotify window, it can be opened and closed without interrupting the listening experience.
