Spotify tests making lyrics exclusive to Premium

Ana sayfa / Social Media

Spotify has started testing a change that could spark controversy among users. According to new claims, the company wants to make lyrics exclusive to Spotify Premium subscribers. The move follows in the footsteps of Elon Musk, who recently made some of Twitter’s features available only to Blue subscribers.

Spotify’s latest lyrics test could alienate free users

Some users on social media have started to criticize Spotify’s tests. Spotify members in the US reported seeing a message saying “Enjoy lyrics with Spotify Premium” when they tried to view lyrics.

Lyrics are currently available to all users, regardless of whether they are free or paid. In addition, in supported songs, it is possible to go to that part of the song by tapping on the lyric. All these features can now be made exclusive to Premium.

Don’t update Spotify for Android! Here’s why

A new update to the Spotify app is causing crash issues. Problems have been reported in both beta and stable versions.

Speaking on the matter, CJ Stanley, Head of Communications at Spotify, confirmed that they are testing this change. “We routinely run a series of tests at Spotify, some of which pave the way for our broader user experience, while others are just important learning,” he said.

This test comes on the heels of Spotify raising prices a few months ago. Last month, Spotify decided to increase the price of its Individual subscription package from $29.99 to $39.99 per month. The $39.99 Duo package was raised to $54.99.

The free version of Spotify includes ads between songs and some restrictions during playback. Apple Music, one of its biggest competitors, does not offer a free tier.
