These images obtained from the Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu reveal a sleek electric sedan with modern design cues, despite its strategic camouflage and missing components. The captured images of the vehicle, previously concealed behind privacy curtains, showcase frameless doors for an elegant entry and exit, as well as hidden door handles that suggest sophistication combined with aerodynamic efficiency.
A notable feature is the placement of the charging port at the rear of the vehicle. This decision is likely made for practical design considerations and user convenience. Another attention-grabbing detail is the Xiaomi logo prominently displayed on the door speaker.
Xiaomi’s automotive aspirations were officially unveiled on March 30, 2021, when the smartphone giant announced a massive investment of 10 billion RMB (approximately 1.28 billion Euros) in the first phase of its automotive venture. A total investment of 9 billion Euros is expected to be made over the next decade, signaling Xiaomi’s serious commitment to its automotive goals.
Xiaomi’s automotive industry plan aims to establish a significant manufacturing facility in Beijing. The plans include the construction of a production facility designed to produce up to an ambitious number of 300,000 vehicles annually, with 150,000 in each of the two-phase developments. This project also encompasses the construction of a multifunctional headquarters that includes sales, research, and development (R&D).
With approval from the National Development and Reform Commission of China, reports in September indicated that Xiaomi had entered the trial production phase of its electric vehicle, showing a significant increase by producing approximately 50 prototype units per week. The question of when Xiaomi will unveil its first electric vehicle remains a topic of curiosity, as the company has gained momentum and determination in this endeavor.
