The highly anticipated second season of Netflix’s popular dystopian series Squid Game is finally coming. The new season of the series, which made a big splash with its first season and locked the audience to the screen, will focus on Seong Gi-hun’s (Lee Jung-jae) quest for revenge. Squid Game season 2 seems to bring tension-filled moments to the audience again.
Squid Game season 2 release date officially announced: December 26, 2024
The release date for Squid Game season 2 has been announced and the series will meet the audience towards the end of this year. Netflix announced that Squid Game season 2 will be released on December 26. With this date, it will be possible to spend the New Year’s holiday with new episodes of this exciting series.
The second season of the series comes three years after the first season and tells the story of Seong Gi-hun joining the deadly game again. However, this time Gi-hun is not after money, but revenge. Considering the deadly events of the first season, it is unlikely that we will see many characters from the previous season again.
However, it is certain that Gi-hun will face the game’s overseer, Front Man (Lee Byung-hun). Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk stated that he wanted to explore Front Man’s relationship with his police officer brother Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon), which suggests that Jun-ho may have survived the events of season 1.
Not only the second season of Squid Game has been confirmed, but also the third and final season. This season, which will be released in 2025, will conclude the story of the series. “After vowing revenge at the end of Season 1, Seong Gi-hun is returning and rejoining the game. It looks like Front Man is not an easy opponent this time either. The fierce clash of the two worlds will continue with Season 3,” Hwang Dong-hyuk said in a letter to fans.
