Cloud Imperium Games has announced that this spin-off game will be released to players in 2026. Despite the long development period, many players believed that this mode would never see the light of day in the Star Citizen universe.

Chris Roberts, CEO of Cloud Imperium Games, commented on the single-player mode, stating that Squadron 42 was feature-complete as of last year, but the last year has been focused on polishing and optimizing the game.

“We are working to ensure the game meets both our expectations and those of the players,” Roberts added, noting that the game will offer a 30-40 hour story experience. Roberts also expressed confidence in the 2026 release date, assuring fans that the game will deliver a high-quality experience.
